School – Activities and Drama    Icon drama

Activities was the name given to the last two periods on Friday afternoons in the 60s. Pupils were free to choose what 'activity' they would like to partake in, except if they had been given a detention*.

Choices included Chess, Drama, Films, Games, Latin, Music, Philately, extra time in labs and so on.

* Detention
What you did in detention was determined by the person — teacher or prefect
who had handed it out. Usually you would sit in a room on your own, which was punishment enough for some, to write lines or essays, or to work on a ridiculous maths problem, like the square root of 247.91 to 6 decimal places ...
In summer stone-picking or cricket pitch rolling were the favoured punishments for boys, especially by Reggie.
